The Traveler vs. Tourist Argument
The Story.
Caroline Eaton posted an article, on Traveling 9 to 5, describing all of the things that she hates about the "Traveler vs. Tourist" argument. She discusses how absolutely absurd it is that there is even a "right" or "wrong" way to travel. After all, traveling is to fulfill curiosity about different places and enjoy yourself no matter how you do it. Of course some may say that traveling is more about exploring the different cultures and tourists seem to follow certain guidelines, but as Eaton writes, "We are all different people with unique preferences, it only makes sense that we will all travel in different ways."
Eaton believes that traveling is meant to gain new experiences and explore the world around us and there should be no stereotypes associated with it. She also argues that "we are all travelers and all tourists." Everyone chooses to visit different places and cities, but some choose to do it in different ways. All travelers have different styles but, no matter what, it will still lead you to new experiences and possibilities that you may not have had before.
Traveling is about pushing your comfort zone, as Eaton describes, and everyone has different levels of comfort when it comes to different things. The choices that people make, and what they enjoy doing or what they decide they are not comfortable doing, should not make them any less of a traveler or any more like a tourist. There should be no right or wrong way to travel the world that we live in.

My View.
I could not agree more with Caroline's article. I had never known, before reading, that there was really a debate regarding the difference between whether someone is a traveler or a tourist. I mean... Seriously? I think that these labels are absolutely ridiculous. Traveling is all about changing your perspective and experiencing everything that our world has to offer.
There is no right way or wrong way to travel, it is all about your personal preferences. What and how you choose to discover and adventure should not be labeled by false accusations. Traveling stems from curiosity to discover and explore and there is definitely not guidelines you should follow. Leaving stereotypes behind is what traveling is all about and this debate between tourists and travelers is taking away from the real meaning of exploring and experiencing our beautiful planet.
Every person is different which confirms the exact idea that people will all choose to travel in different ways that fit their comfortability and curiosity. Traveling is such a beautiful concept that allows people to step outside their norms and value the amazing world around us. The love for exploring and visiting new places should not be overshadowed by a silly debate that takes away the real meaning behind traveling. So just remember, there is no right or wrong way when it comes to traveling; just enjoy the beautiful world that we live in!
